The start of the New Year will bring more seasonal weather.

The start of New Years day will see plenty of rain and shower. Cold air will start to move down from the North. It looks like any remaining rain could turn wintery around teatime.

Next week we will see daytime temperatures struggling to get much above freezing with daytimes only around reaching 2-3 centigrade and the odd wintery shower and night times around -2 to -4 centigrade.

At this time of writing it looks like we could have some snow during Thursday 5h January and Saturday 7th.

This image is the 850 hpa. What I am looking for is the -5 c line. If we are within this line it means there is a chance of some snow. -5 c is the temperature at 5,000 feet not ground level. During next week this -5 c will pass over the UK and the Midlands on several occasions.

Please note this is what I am watching and not a forecast but it looks promising.
