For sometime now I have indicated that I could see a wintery spell of weather around the end of the second week of January.

I now have more confidence that this will happen, the detail in how much snow and how long it lasts beyond next weekend is still uncertain.

At the moment it looks like cold air will start to move down through the UK during Thursday maybe reaching us during the evening turning our rain to snow. Snow showers look like becoming widespread throughout the UK during the evening. Friday looks like it will be a cold day with the odd isolated snow shower. Saturday will see more snow showers and feeling cold. Sunday looks like seeing our temperatures briefly rising with rain and showers.

The GFS model then see a return of colder air into the new week with some wintery showers. Other models see the temperature rising again.

Summary, turning winter late Thursday, feeling cold with some wintry showers Friday and Saturday.
