The start of January is looking like we will see our weather turning more seasonal with temperatures struggling to reach 2-3 centigrade by day and temperature below freezing soon after sunset.
High pressure looks like it will be in charge until around the 3rd January keeping our weather settled with chilly and mainly dry conditions. Then the high pressure looks like moving away letting a low pressure trough in. This then would bring winds from a northerly direction and maybe we could see some wintry showers from the 5th onwards.
This 850 hpa 9 day panel image shows the temperature at approximately 1500 metres. You can see colder air starts to move in from around the 1st January onwards. This is not real cold air but temperatures a little closer to what they should be. Its around the 5th January when the real colder air starts to dig in, this is out of the range of this 9 day panel image.
