This is my third update on a return to wintery feel to our weather next week.
High pressure in the Atlantic and Low pressure system over Scandinavia is set to bring wintery weather to the UK.
A deep low pressure system moves near to Iceland during Sunday and moves onwards towards Scandinavia. This will bring Arctic cold air down from the North starting Monday.
I think there is a chance of some wintery weather, hail, sleet and possibly snow over night Monday into Tuesday and then over the next few evening and nights.
It looks like over night temperatures falling to around -2 c and daytimes top temperatures around 6 c. It will feel raw with the wind chill.
The image is showing the 850 hpa thickness line and we are well past the 528 line. Air temperature at 5,000 feet could be around -8 c at times next week. I don’t think at any time this winter did the air temperature at 5,000 feet fall below -8 c over the Midlands.
More details to follow over the coming days.
