I believe that we are in a unsettled mixed spell of weather due to the cold sea surface temperatures out in the mid Atlantic. This image is showing sea surface temperatures around the globe. You can see the large area of cold waters in the North Atlantic. I have drawn on the image the area of cold temperatures in RED. Where we see cold waters this will allow high pressure and a ridge to build. Following the ridge a trough develops, falling over the UK. I have marked the high pressure ridge in Red and the low pressure trough in GREEN. This GREEN line also shows the average path of the jet-stream. You can see we are on the colder side of the jet-stream. So I see this unsettled, mixed weather what we have experienced set to continued for sometime yet.
So I will be watching sea surface temperatures carefully for any changes.
