Followers will know I look at the 4 week outlook from the JMA the Japanese Met Agency. Well they do a very long range outlook looking at 3 months. Now we have to take that with a very large pinch of salt and we certainly don’t look for detail but it may be useful look for a trend.
I have shown the air pressure at sea level. Blue is low pressure, yellow is high pressure. I have rotated the images and pasted them together adding a red line to show where the UK is.
December.
Low pressure is located over the UK This will bring above average precipitation with temperatures around average. This setup would bring a North-westerly airflow, so it may be cold enough at times for it to be a little wintry.
January.
Low pressure is over the UK with a South Westerly airflow. This would bring temperature near to normal with above average precipitation, this would be rain due to the milder South westerlies.
February.
Low pressure is over Germany and Scandinavia. This would bring a northerly airflow over the UK, so we could expect temperatures maybe just below average with above average precipitation. This precipitation could be wintry due to the northerly airflow.
